G-POST: PHOTOGRAPHY INSPIRATION

HELLO + WELCOME to what will be a regular post from mwah… Gee.

This will be a little section where I might tell you a story, a bit about myself, a blog I am loving, things that inspire me or people who inspire me.

Whatever it is, I’ll write about it.

PHOTOGRAPHY INSPIRATION

There has been a lot of interest lately in the photos popping up on the Aussie Overlanders website. I absolutely love photography but I am an amateur. I think you can only call yourself a professional when you derive an income from photography.

I don’t lean towards any style really. If there is a great macro shot to be taken I will try to capture it. An interesting portrait… snap! A scary wildlife encounter…. bam!

I would love to have photos that one day people could look at and imagine themselves being immersed in that scene. I want to tell a story when I take a photo.

Until then I draw inspiration from some of the best.

JIMMY CHIN

Jimmy Chin is a one of my favourites. He is a National Geographic award winning photographer, skier, climber, cinematographer and explorer. His photos are off the clock and what he has to do to take some of them is extreme. I am loving his blog too and on it he interviews some pretty extreme dudes.

KEN KAMINENSKY

“Ken Kaminesky is a commercial travel photographer and visual storyteller. His work has been featured in numerous commercial publications, including on the cover of National Geographic. He communicates his passion for travel, and for the landscapes & people he meets along the way, through his popular blog, and through yearly workshops in places as far-flung as Jordan, Italy and Iceland. His favourite place in the world is always his next destination. He believes that everywhere has a story that will inspire people, and he’d love to capture it in an image. He doesn’t usually talk about himself in the third-person”.

Love that his favourite place in the World is his next destination. So true.

STEVE McCURRY

Steve McCurry is an American photographer with more than 30 years experience in the industry. I first came to know of Steve’s work when I saw the portrait of the  the  “Afghan Girl” on the cover of an old National Geographic magazine. This would have to be one of my all time favourite portraits but Steve has many others in his vast portfolio.

NICK BRANDT

I like Nick’s work because he focuses solely on Africa. His Black and White’s inspire me to mix up my own work and have a crack at changing things around. One of his goals is to record a “last testament” of the African animals before they are all destroyed by humankind. Let’s hope he never has to display that.
